How can we solve a rather big ant problem?

So a couple times a month we'll notice ants in my cat's food bowl and we're having to dump the food out and replace it. We spray raid where the ants come from but they keep coming and they keep on coming. What can we do to stop this problem for good. It's wasting money and I'm concerned that my cat might have eaten food with ants all over it.
