Is there a way to allocate more ram and processing power to one particular application on a macbook pro?

I'm encoding a video right now and it's taking forever. I notice only a small portion of my ram and cores are being used. Is there a way to allocate the portion of my unused ram and cores to that application so that it may encode the video faster?
