Will I get Penalised if I use my Calculator to calculate Standard Deviation for a set of frequency?

i have a maths exam tomarrow and some questions involve calculating Mean and SD of set of data. Now we are only taught of using the Calculator for it and not taught how to use the Formula. I lookaed at a previous past paper and saw the marks allocated, its 4 marks; one for the mean and three for the SD. and looked at the Mark Scheme also and each mark is given for a step of using the Formula, so it is a calculator paper and would we be penalised for not using the formula?
