How do you get rid of house ants?

got house aint were in illinois ive been tring the borax trick and i dont know if its working... its attracted all ants to my trap yet there are like 30 ants dead around the trap so i dont think there making it back to the hive i did 1/3 borax 2/3 suger and a little penutbutter and water to make it a paste what should i do????
