If God is omnipotent why is He/She credited for good things but not blamed for disasters and tragedies?

I hate it when people publicly praise God for the miracle of saving them from a house fire or serious illness (not the rescuers or doctors?) but never publicly blame God for not saving other good, faithful people. Does God play eenie, meenie, minie, moe?
